Hot and stormy Thursday; Tropical Storm Danielle forms in Mid-Atlantic

Published: Updated:

High temperatures will stretch into the upper 70s and lower 80s under increasing cloud cover. Unfortunately, it will feel like the triple digits when you factor in the high humidity forecast for the region. Boaters will have great conditions on the waters if they can dodge today’s storms. A light chop in our bays along with 1- to 2-foot Gulf wave heights are forecast throughout Thursday.

Scattered rain chances return to the forecast. After a few spotty coastal showers in the morning, isolated storms will form around lunchtime. These will grow in coverage and strength into the evening before dissipating after dark. Severe weather is not expected. Lightning, localized flooding, and gusty winds will all be possible within the strongest thunderstorms.

Tropical Storm Danielle has officially formed in the northern portion of the Atlantic. Danielle is slowly meandering eastward, away from the United States. Conditions are favorable for Danielle to eventually strengthen into a high-end Category 1 hurricane.

Additionally, a tropical wave located near the Cape Verde Islands will have a medium (20%) chance of formation by next Tuesday. Regardless, this system will likely track into the Mid-Atlantic and away from the United States.

The same can be said for disturbance 91L to the west of it with a high (70%) chance of forming within the next five days. It is looking more organized on satellite imagery this morning and conditions appear favorable for this to likely strengthen into a hurricane if it becomes named. Our upper air pattern will likely steer it away from the United States.
