Two powerboats were found with the motor missing after being stolen from Edison Sailing Center in Fort Myers.

The company teaches safe boating to local kids and has an event coming up but this theft could impact that.

Next month they have their Junior Olympic Festival they said they need these boats to be safe.

Ross Webb, Founder of Edison Sailing Center said, “Both the engines are off on them. And one engine costs about $15,000. The other one costs about five grand.”

Webb said the two powerboats were stolen and stripped down sometime Friday night or Saturday.

“The motors are missing and all the gear and the shifting gear and throttle cables and the batteries and anything that had to do with running an engine. Also, both engines had prop guards on them for safety reasons with around kids. And of course, that’s all the agents so they took those two,” Webb said.

Webb said Cape Coral police called him and said they found an abandoned boat.

“We’ve said ‘it can’t be our boat.’ We didn’t really think it was gonna be our boat,” Webb said.

The other boat was found thanks to Facebook.

“We posted on Facebook, and it was over on Sutherland Drive, just north of Colonial Boulevard right in front of that storage company,” Webb said.

Fort Myers police told WINK News “We have completed the recovery of the trailers and boats but both motors remain missing.”
