The Florida governor’s race is heating up now that Gov. Ron DeSantis is slamming his opponent Charlie Crist in a new advertisement.

DeSantis accuses Crist of supporting the Biden Administration’s “open border policy” and claims it allows criminals, gangs and drugs passage into the U.S.

Crist fired back at DeSantis, calling the ad vile and a disgusting attack on immigrant children.

The Republican Party of Florida is running a commercial statewide in support of Ron DeSantis. The ad shows Crist embracing President Joe Biden and making it clear Crist supports an “open border policy”.

At one point in the ad, the lower right-hand corner cites H.R. 6 as evidence that Crist and Biden support “open borders.”

Political expert Aubrey Jewett told WINK News that H.R. 6 does not have much to do with open borders.

“That’s their evidence of the bill that Chris voted for that supposedly supports open borders. But, to me, that’s just not true,” Jewett said. “It was specifically about the Dreamers, and far from saying, you know, endorsing and allowing criminals and drug addicts and gang members and that sort of thing.”

In a Politico article, Crist called the ad a “disgusting attack on innocent immigrant children,” and said it was “vile” for the governor’s campaign to compare “Dreamers” to criminals and drug smugglers.

It’s important to note that the GOP ad does not mention “Dreamers” at all, and there is no explicit comparison made. Dreamers are children brought to the U.S. at a young age by undocumented immigrant parents.
