Tuesday is National Voter Registration Day, and the Collier County elections office is doing its part to get people registered to vote in the upcoming election.

The county will host seven registration drives across the region in hopes of getting more people to register to vote.

The Collier County Supervisor of Elections Office will be out in the community, in local libraries, and in government facilities ready to help you register.

The sites will be staffed, providing services for voting, education materials like voter guides, important dates and deadlines, and other materials to ensure voters are ready for the upcoming general election.

WINK News asked Trish Robertson with the Collier County Supervisor of Elections Office how important it is to get people registered to vote as so many people are moving here.

“When it comes to moving up somewhere within the state or within the county, that’s something that we can handle. And we can update for you. But we want to go ahead and update that for you before you show up at the polls. So, voter registration dates, not only a reminder to register to vote, but also to make sure that your information is updated, including your address, because your address is so important when it comes to what’s on your ballot and where you can vote on Election Day,” said Robertson.

The Collier County Supervisor of Elections Office wants as many people eligible to vote to register, but more importantly, they want people to get out and vote.

Collier County has a history of leading the state regarding turnout. In the 2020 election, they saw 90% of their voters cast a ballot. They’re hoping to keep it going during the midterm elections.

“Especially during these midterm elections, we like to remind voters there’s no Electoral College in this election, so your vote is a direct vote to the people you want to represent you. These elections are so incredibly important because they’re local elections. So, the decisions that the leaders make who we’re voting for have a direct impact on their daily lives, thinking about things like county commissioners who make decisions about growth in the county, thinking about school board members who have such an impact on our children and the budget when it comes to education,” said Robertson.

WINK News also asked Robertson how the county is helping people register in places like Immokalee, where voter turnout is typically low. She said they had volunteers registering voters at the Boys and Girls Club on Saturday.
