The Cape Coral Police Department is cracking down on safety after a father was killed crossing the street in south Cape Coral. It happened near Back Streets, a bar in the area. George Sipos’ sons say drivers should be more careful. Sipos was always the life of the party. What brought him the most joy were his sons, Brody and Nick Sipos. He loved to spend time with them going to the beach and road-tripping on the west coast. “He was our best friend. He was someone that we talked to just almost every day we talk about nothing. We talk about everything,” the Sipos brothers said. “We knew how much he loved us because he told us every day.” George Sipos died after he was hit by a car while he crossed the street in downtown Cape Coral. Police say he was walking to Backstreets in downtown Cape Coral on Friday night but as he crossed the street, a car hit him. First responders rushed him to the hospital, but he died on Monday. “It’s been the hardest thing we had to go through and it’s we know we have a long road ahead of us because like I said we were best friends. Not not he was just our dad. He was literally our best friend,” the brothers said. Cape Coral police don’t want to see this happen again, especially as more people venture downtown. Cape Coral police are reminding the public that some lights are still out because of Ian damage. The police department cited Cork Soakers recently for its event where it invites people to dance on the street on Wednesday nights. The city denied a road closure permit recently. Look left look right before you proceed.” Not having their father is the toughest thing Brody and Nick have ever gone through. “I’m so proud to be his son and so grateful for all the time we had together and how important it was that we spent time together and that we knew how much he loved us because he told us every day.”
