On Friday, a suspicious envelope was found at the Lee County Sheriff’s Office headquarters.

Sheriff Carmine Marceno said the South Trail Fire Department was on the scene to investigate.

South Trail Fire says a powdery substance was gathered by hazmat teams and tested. The powder turned out to be calcium carbonate, a dietary supplement.

The fire department says the envelope was sent through the mail to the sheriff’s office, but it isn’t clear who it was sent by.

South Trail Fire suspects that the powder originated from a reused bag in which the envelope had arrived.

The LCSO headquarters has been reopened to the public after there was no threat found.
