The Lee County Sheriff’s Office confirmed human remains were found near a Goodwill on Bonita Beach Road in Bonita Springs.

People from the area say crime scene vans from the sheriff’s office have been on the scene since Tuesday night.

WINK News spoke with John Morgan, who was staying at the Fairfield Inn, steps away from the crime scene.

“Is it safe, you know, because we’re staying here, right? Literally staying right next door,” Morgan said.

The investigation is right under the drop-off area on one side of the store. The Goodwill is still open and taking donations at the main entrance.

“Should I be concerned? And they’re like, no, no, don’t worry about it,” Morgan said.

Keith Malanowski recently retired after working in corrections in New York for 26 years. He told WINK News he knows what a death investigation looks like when he sees it. And Malanowski’s immediate reaction was fear.

“What’s actually going on over there? So close to where we have to stay. Is there somebody around? Could the person be in the hotel? Worried about my daughters. They’re 21 in 18, and my wife, my dogs,” Malanowski said.

Earlier Wednesday, WINK News saw investigators put what appeared to be a body bag inside an LCSO car before driving off.

There has been no word on what precisely happened, whether it was a homicide or if there was any foul play involved.

WINK News has a crew on the scene and will update this story when we get more information.
