Person killed after car crashes into Englewood church

One person was killed Friday morning after being pinned by a car that crashed into an Englewood church.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol and Charlotte County EMS, a Mustang crashed into Abundant Life Worship Center (formerly the Englewood Event Center) at 3069 S. McCall Road. A person was struck by the car and pinned. They were taken to a hospital in Englewood but later declared dead.

WINK News spoke to Billy Gordon, who said he knew the victim, and they shared a passion for music and performing. He said they met at the Shipwreck Pub, where they both performed on karaoke nights.

Gordon said his sister told him about the crash, and he had to get to the scene immediately.

“He was a vet. He loved music. He was a drummer. He loved to play in bands. He loved to sing. He was definitely a performer. It absolutely kills me. Yeah, he was just such a good guy. And I just want people to know that, you know, he was, I mean, he was a really good guy,” said Gordon.

Crash investigatiors have not released any other information about the crash.
