65-year-old biker dies six days after Port Charlotte crash

A 65-year-old man from Punta Gorda died six days after getting hit by a car while riding his bike in Charlotte County.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the 65-year-old man from Punta Gorda died on Sunday. Before dying, he was getting treated for critical injuries when he was transported to the hospital on Feb. 13.

Jasmine Faith Haney, 22, from Port Charlotte, went west in the left turn lane on Edgewater Drive, east of Bayshore Road.

The man riding his bike was going east on the south shoulder of Edgewater Dr., east of Bayshore Rd.

Haney turned left trying to get into a Marathon gas station parking lot and ended up crashing into the front of the biker.

Then the woman fled the scene after the crash.

Just a little bit later, Haney and the car were found. The car was impounded, and Haney was arrested for leaving the scene of a crash involving a serious injury and no valid license.

The crash remains under investigation
