David John Konley, 60. Credit: Lee County Sheriff’s Office A man was arrested Wednesday night after troopers say he struck a bicyclist on Bayshore Road in North Fort Myers and drove away. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a pickup truck driven by 60-year-old Fort Myers man David John Konley was traveling east in the outside lane of Bayshore Road, approaching Slater Road around 7:15 p.m. A 61-year-old man, also from Fort Myers, was riding a bicycle east on Bayshore Road. Konley tried to make a turn into the parking lot of the Walgreens at 6370 Bayshore Road and struck the bicyclist. Credit: Florida Highway Patrol After the crash, Konley stopped his pickup truck, got out and looked at the injured bicyclist. He then re-entered the pickup truck and drove away, leaving behind his passenger, a 53-year-old Cape Coral man. Troopers found and arrested Konley at the home of his passenger. He faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash with injury, obstruction, driving while license suspended, and a probation violation. The crash remains under investigation.
