The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office says a man has been arrested after they say he tied to meet with a minor for sex in Port Charlotte on Saturday.

Deputies say they were tipped off after an Uber driver dropped an underage girl off at a Port Charlotte motel and became concerned when he saw her get into a car with an adult male.

The sheriff’s office responded to the area and found Kenneth Devon Fordham, 35, and the minor as they were getting out of Fordham’s car.

Deputies say Fordham refused to speak with deputies. They say the minor described meeting Fordham through Facebook. Deputies say the child told them Fordham was aware of her age, and they had smoked marijuana and participated in sexual activity on at least two other occasions.

The sheriff’s office says messages on the victim’s phone corroborated her statements.

Fordham was arrested and is facing charges of lewd and lascivious battery on a victim 12-16 years old, using a computer to lure a child, and traveling to meet a minor after using a computer to lure a child.

He is held in the Charlotte County Jail on a $1.7 million bond.
