‘They were wrong’: Gov. DeSantis criticizes COVID response during book launch

Governor DeSantis launched his book Tuesday in North Venice. It covers his upbringing to his time as governor, something he calls a blueprint for other leaders to follow.

The governor’s book debuted at number one on Amazon. The governor said Florida is number one because no vaccine mandate or woke ideology is being pushed on kids in school.

During the launch of his book “The Courage to be Free: Florida’s Blueprint for America’s Revival,” DeSantis discussed why he believes America needs to be revived. He started with the pandemic.

“They were wrong about the lockdowns. They were wrong that cloth masks could end the pandemic. That’s what the CDC said. If you do masking for six weeks, COVID will end. That was wrong when they said it, and it’s been proven wrong,” said DeSantis.

He didn’t hold back at the launch or in his book. DeSantis targeted Democrats and some Republicans. “One of the themes of the book is that part of the problem with the Republican party has been the entrenched Republicans in D.C. are just out of touch with our desires here in Florida and other ways across the country.”

The governor also went after Doctor Anthony Fauci. “He was dictating all this stuff, he was so upset at Florida for everything we did during COVID, and you know, I talk about in the book, these guys were not following the data. They were following an agenda.”

The central theme of his book? Florida is the citadel of freedom for the entire country. “I think the message of the book, the underlying is, Florida shows it can be done, Florida shows that we’re not destined for failure. We’ve done well, and we can do good for all Americans.”

The question is will DeSantis try to represent all Americans as president? He did not go there but asked supporters to “Buckle up because a lot more will be happening in Florida, and soon.”
