A man was arrested early Tuesday morning after Cape Coral police say he fought with and spat on officers while being removed from a home during a drunken argument.

According to the Cape Coral Police Department, Skyler Gerald Watson, 26, was arrested after officers were called to the 1100 block of Southwest 44th Street at around 01:30 a.m. Watson was said to be acting erratic and arguing with people at the home.

Officers arrived at the scene and found Watson to be angry and visibly drunk. Watson began waving his hands in an officer’s face and shouting profanities and was unwilling to answer questions about what happened before the police arrived. Witnesses on the scene said Watson had an argument at a local bar that continued after he arrived back at the home.

The witnesses wanted Watson removed from the home to stop any further disputes. Police say Watson would not cooperate with them. He lunged at an officer’s face with his hands and was quickly placed into handcuffs, where he continued to resist and fight. Watson attempted to sweep the officers’ legs while in handcuffs, and spat into an officer’s face while being placed in the back of a patrol vehicle.

Watson was taken to the Lee County Jail. He faces charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting without violence.
