Motorcyclist killed in crash on Edgewater Drive in Port Charlotte

A motorcyclist was killed in a late Wednesday night crash on Edgewater Drive in Port Charlotte.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 28-year-old Punta Gorda man on a motorcycle was traveling east in the inside lane of Edgewater Drive, approaching Severin Road Southeast just after 10:30 p.m. An SUV driven by a 52-year-old Port Charlotte man was traveling north on Severin Road Southeast and turned left onto westbound Edgewater Drive.

The motorcycle traveled off Edgewater Drive, crossed the median, overturned onto its side and collided with the left side of the SUV. The motorcyclist sustained critical injuries and was transported to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The crash remains under investigation.
