The South Florida Water Management District announced on Thursday that a prescribed burn will be conducted in the CREW Management Area, located approximately 5 miles east of I-75 and 1.35 miles north of Bonita Beach Road. The burn, which covers an area of 163 acres, is planned for today, March 23, 2023. The purpose of the burn is to reduce the risk of wildfires by removing excess vegetation. Residents in the surrounding areas may see smoke as a result of the prescribed burn, but officials have assured the public that the smoke is not a cause for concern.
