Cape Coral police investigating deaths on Southwest 12th Street

Published: Updated:

The Cape Coral Police Department is investigating deaths at a Southwest 12th Street address.

Multiple CCPD officers were present at the house on Friday morning, as well as Lee County EMS. Caution tape surrounds it.

Police were seen speaking to several adults and a young child. Forensic units arrived shortly before noon.

A body and boxes of evidence were seen being removed from the home after 2 p.m. Another body was removed from the home around 2:45 p.m. Cape Coral police say a man and woman are dead but would not provide any information about their ages.

The people in the Cape Coral neighborhood feared the worst when they saw police, and the worst came true.

“We don’t believe that anyone is at large or anything like that,” said Cape Coral Police Public Information Officer Brandon Sancho.

Neighbors said the couple who lived in the home also had a young child. WINK News saw investigators from the Department of Children and Families on the scene, but DCF will not say why they were there.

When Ryann Gardner left for work Friday morning, he said there was nothing going on. “This area over here is really quiet. And I got a Cape Coral officer that lives right next door to me. So we normally don’t have any issues over here.”

That changed around 8 a.m. when Cape police rushed several officers to the scene. They were still here when Gardner got home. He saw the medical examiner take both bodies away.

“I got two young kids of my own. But I mean, the world that we live in, it’s kind of crazy as it is,” Gardner said.

Gardner said he’d like to know what happened because right now, what happened has him on edge. “It just shocks me that it is so close to my home more and more than anything, you know, three houses down, you think, you know, just because you see somebody quite often that you know him or her, you know that this couldn’t happen, but it definitely can.”

While CCPD confirms an active investigation is taking place, it could not confirm any other details.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
