Smelly green gunk in Cape Coral canal

Neighbors in Cape Coral are holding their noses because of some green gunk in a canal.

The gunk is in the canal on Gleason Parkway and Skyline Boulevard.

While the smell wasn’t so bad Wednesday evening, in the morning neighbors told WINK News it wasn’t a pleasant smell at all. And while the smell was bad, the sight wasn’t enjoyable either.

And when Tina Lyons saw the gunk outside her home, she didn’t hold back on her reaction.

“Holy crap. Haha. I didn’t know what is,” Lyons said.

Whatever it is, it’s not the canal that brought Lyons to Cape Coral.

“It’s not fun no more. I don’t want to live with this every day. Would you? No. It’s disgusting,” Lyons said.

Lyons told WINK News that it looks like rocks floating in the canal. And when she described the pungent odor, you can tell it isn’t enjoyable.

“Like dead fish. Just has a nasty smell. I can’t explain it. It’s got a yucky smell,” Lyons said.

She’s used to feeding ducks as they come on land, but given the green gunk, they have to navigate through all the gunk. But the ducks also have to paddle around the trash in the water, even a porta-potty in the canal.

Lyons reached out to WINK News, hoping something can be done.

“I don’t want to live like this. You know I want to enjoy the water and watch the fish and the turtles and everybody be happy,” Lyons said.

WINK News reached out to the city about the green gunk or if they’ve been notified of it. WINK News even sent pictures of the canal to the city. A spokesperson told WINK News they’re looking into it.

When WINK News hears back from Cape Coral about the green gunk we will let you know.
