Chance for a few showers, lower humidity Thursday afternoon

Published: Updated:

As of Thursday’s update, portions of Southwest Florida are experiencing extreme drought. This includes Fort Myers, the southern half of Fort Myers Beach, the majority of Collier County as far south as northern Marco Island, and most of Hendry county.

Areas like Copeland and Everglades City are still experiencing severe drought.

Thursday brings another afternoon with above-average heat as highs climb into the upper 80s and lower 90s.

Thursday’s rain chances include a few showers, mainly in the south and tracking southwest. The first half of the day will generally stay dry across Southwest Florida before showers develop in the late afternoon, lingering into the evening.

As dew points drop in the afternoon, lower humidity will amplify the risk of fire danger for much of the viewing area. Areas like Lee County are over 4.5 inches drier than normal. Fortunately, winds will only be breezy out of the northeast between 5 and 15 mph.

The boating forecast includes 1- to 3-foot wave heights and light-to-moderate chop in the bays.
