The Florida Department of Law Enforcement says the 2-year-old boy missing from Pinellas County has been found dead.

On Thursday, FDLE issued an Amber Alert for 2-year-old Taylen Mosey. St. Petersburg police say they found Mosey’s body in an alligator’s mouth.

“They fired one round to the alligator. The alligator dropped the object that he had in his mouth, and we were able to retrieve Taylen’s body intact,” said St. Petersburg Police Cheif Anthony Holloway.

On Friday, WINK News learned that Mosey’s mother was found murdered in their apartment. Mosey and his mother, Pashun Jeffery, were last seen alive by their family around 5:30 on Wednesday night.

The family became worried and asked for staff at the apartment complex where they lived to check in on them. St. Petersburg police say they found the mother dead on Thursday afternoon in what they described as a “violent scene.”

Police say Mosey’s father is facing two counts of first-degree murder.
