A Port Charlotte man was sentenced Friday to 5 1/2 years in prison for sexually assaulting a minor.
Matthew Jacob Elston, 32, was adjudicated guilty and sentenced for unlawful sexual activity with certain minors. He was also designated a sexual offender.
Elston’s prison sentence will be followed by 5 years of sex offender probation.
In October 2022, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office went to a home in reference to a sexual assault. Information was reported that Elston had committed a sexual act on a victim under 18. The investigation determined that a sexual assault had occurred, and Elston was arrested.
