Charlotte County taking steps for the future

The future is now here in Southwest Florida, and leaders are trying to think ahead and plan for the influx of people expected in the coming years.

On Tuesday, Charlotte County leaders discussed the future of their community.

They planned new affordable housing units, water resource improvements and infrastructure upgrades.

The commissioners heard from all different sectors of Charlotte County on how we can improve from more opportunities for high schoolers to affordable housing to environmental and infrastructure improvements.

Charlotte County commissioners also heard updates on previous goals and heard “bold goals” for economic and community development. 

Another topic was resiliency and getting grants and funding to make sure our assets will last in the future.

The county has applied for 46 projects under FEMA and obtained $120 million thus far.
