BREAKING NEWS LCSO: Lehigh Acres shooting investigation underway

Afternoon commute begins on first weekday of Caloosahatchee Bridge closure

Published: Updated:

Monday morning, the first weekday after the Caloosahatchee Bridge closure, was off to a better start than expected as the first weekday, and the afternoon seemed to mirror the morning.

For those headed onto the Mid-Point Memorial toll bridge, there was a three-mile backup from Metro Parkway to McGregor Boulevard at around 4:30 p.m.

As we move into the evening, backups are expected southbound on the Edison Bridge.

The Florida Department of Transportation is detouring those who typically take the Caloosahatchee Bridge to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, and then follow a left on Evans Avenue.

Near Colonial Boulevard and Fowler Street, construction workers and detour signs line the roads. Authorities urge commuters to take the legal detours.

Near Jackson Street and Main Street in downtown Fort Myers, some commuters say they have been waiting over an hour in traffic, and it’s best to avoid the area.
