DeSantis announces $8 million grant for Inter Miami’s new stadium

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis held a press conference in Fort Lauderdale Thursday evening about Inter Miami CF’s new stadium.

He announced an $8 million grant to help construct Miami Freedom Park, the team’s new stadium, which is slated to open in the fall of 2026.

The team currently plays in Chase Stadium, which is located in Fort Lauderdale, where DeSantis made the announcement.

DeSantis emphasized how sports like soccer are becoming more popular in Florida and how this project will help the roadways and alleviate the traffic caused by these games.

He expects more tourists to come due to this project and more jobs created.

Inter Miami CF Managing Owner Jorge Mas said that the project will generate $40 million in tax revenue for state and local governments.

He said it will benefit an impoverished part of the city.

A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for later this year.

David Beckham had been scheduled to appear, but he did not.
