Port Charlotte to host electronic recycling event

Residents of Port Charlotte can free up space in their homes as the city has announced an electronic recycling event.

At the recycling event held by Keep Charlotte Beautiful, residents are encouraged to search their homes for unwanted electronics and drop them off at the Walmart located at 19100 Murdock Circle.

The event is scheduled to begin on Dec. 7 from 8 a.m. to noon, and the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office will station its community policing officers to assist.

The following items are permitted to be recycled at the event:

  • Desktops and laptops
  • TV’s
  • Keyboards, mice, and speakers
  • Hard drives, tapes, and other storage devices
  • Projectors
  • Printers
  • Copiers
  • Scanners
  • Plotters
  • Fax machines
  • Cell phones
  • rechargeable batteries
  • Power supplies and adaptors
  • Consumer electronics
  • Telephones
  • PDAs
  • Tablets
  • Gaming consoles
  • DVD, CD and VCR players
  • Stereo equipment

Organizers advise recyclers to eliminate documents that must be shredded before the event.

The community policing officers will claim old prescription pill containers if they are brought to the event.
