American Airlines flights operational following brief grounding

Published: Updated:

American Airlines reported a “technical issue” that disrupted flights nationwide early Tuesday, but the Federal Aviation Administration cleared the planes soon after.

All American Airlines flights were briefly grounded in the United States on Christmas Day, at around 7:30 a.m., including at RSW.

The issue has been resolved, but flyers should expect some delays.

WINK News reached out to American Airlines for information, and they responded in a statement:

“A vendor technology issue briefly affected flights this morning. That issue has been resolved and flights have resumed. We sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience this morning. It’s all hands on deck as our team is working diligently to get customers where they need to go as quickly as possible.” American Airlines Media Relations

They also provided the following additional info:

  • The technology issue impacted the systems needed to release flights.
  • The ground stop lasted approximately one hour.
  • Customers can find the latest information on their flight using the mobile app and aa.com.

Flights began taking off about about 30 minutes after the grounding.
