Although it’s been two years and three months since Hurricane Ian slammed Southwest Florida, city of Punta Gorda officials continue to calculate damages that totaled $6,344,317 as of late December.

“We do expect that number to rise,” Interim City Manager Melissa Reichert said.

The impact of Ian and an update will be discussed by City Council members at a Jan. 9 meeting.

At the time of the hurricane, the city had a $114,079,358 insurance policy with Lake Mary-based Preferred Governmental Insurance Trust.
