Fatal multi-vehicle crash temporarily closes all lanes on SR-82 in Lehigh Acres

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash involving multiple vehicles on SR-82 west of 40th Street in Lehigh Acres.

According to FHP’s report, the crash occurred at around 7 a.m. on Wednesday, and all lanes of traffic were closed for hours while law enforcement worked the scene.

The road has since reopened.

A van driven by a 32-year-old man was traveling west when it collided with the rear of sedan being driven by a 51-year-old-woman.

The car traveled off the road and knocked down a light pole.

After the van collided, it crossed over all westbound travel lanes, entering the raised concrete curb median, colliding with a “Do Not Enter” sign and then entered the eastbound travel lanes.

The right side of the van collided with the right side of a SUV driven by a 45-year-old man and with the front of a second SUV with a 36-year-old man at the wheel.

Driver one and driver four sustained serious injuries and were transported to an area hospital.

The second SUV’s passenger sustained critical injuries and also had to be transported to an area hospital. The passenger was later pronounced deceased.

The crash remains under investigation.
