The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has responded to calls for Sheriff Carmine Marceno to resign on Thursday.

The FBI is investigating the sheriff and allegations of money laundering.

State Committeeman Mick Peters said he thinks the accusations surrounding Marceno are enough of a reason for the governor to remove him.

LCSO responded with the following statement:

“Sheriff Carmine Marceno remains an active member of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and is dedicated to the residents of Lee County.”
