71-year-old dead after being struck by vehicle in Collier County

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash involving a 71-year-old male pedestrian in Collier County.

According to FHP, a 46-year-old woman from Lehigh Acres was driving east on Rattlesnake Hammock Road on Sunday night, approaching Collier Boulevard in the outside left turn lane.

The man was walking south across the eastbound travel lanes of Rattlesnake Hammock Road.

The driver then collided with the man, causing critical injuries.

Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement closed the eastbound lanes to investigate and treat the injured man.

He was transported to a local area hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
