An overnight burglary at a middle school had deputies rushing to the scene, causing parents to have to wait to drop their children off.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office said the burglary happened Tuesday night at Golden Gate Middle School.

There was a large police presence early Wednesday morning, but it has since been mostly cleared. Only a couple of police vehicles remain.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office assured that the school is safe for students, faculty, and staff.

The break-in, which occurred the previous night, was described as an isolated incident.

Law enforcement units remained on campus for a while after it opened to ensure security.

Earlier in the morning, deputies investigated the burglary, which caused traffic congestion because parents, teachers, and staff were not allowed in.

By 8:45 a.m., the scene was cleared, and everyone was allowed inside just in time for classes.

Multiple unmarked law enforcement units continued to patrol the school and neighborhood.

The sheriff’s office has not confirmed whether they are still searching for suspects or whether there was damage or theft. However, they reiterated that the school is safe for students.
