Car fire on I-75S at mile marker 175, minor injuries reported

The Florida Highway Patrol and firefighters responded to a car fire on Interstate 75 South which closed southbound lanes for several hours.

According to FHP, the massive fire was reported at around 6:45 a.m. on Thursday, temporarily closing the left and middle lanes of traffic near mile marker 175 while crews worked the scene.

Southbound traffic accumulated due to the car fire.

It remains unclear how the fire started and how many cars were involved.

The North Port Police Department contacted WINK News, which noted that no one was killed in the fire, there were only minor injuries.

The highway has since reopened.
