Bonita Springs hosted its first World Ukulele Celebration Day at Riverside Park on Sunday afternoon.

The free, all-day event featured food, music, and ukuleles, welcoming attendees of all ages and experience levels.

Donations collected during the event will benefit Right Chord for Veterans.

Joy Spiva, an attendee and ukulele player, shared her personal connection to the instrument.

“When I first learned to play ukulele, my husband was very old, and I was his caretaker. This got me through. I was able to get away for a while and make music with bigger singers,” said Spiva.

She added, “Ukulele is funny and sweet. You can smile as soon as you say the word ukulele. And it’s important because it lets people have music in their lives.”

The event wrapped up with the final concert of the day, leaving attendees inspired and eager to continue their musical journey.
