The Sundial Resort on Sanibel Island has reached a significant milestone in its recovery from Hurricane Ian.

After being closed for 28 months, the resort is now welcoming overnight guests once again.

“We are officially open after 28 months of being closed after Hurricane Ian, we have welcomed our first guests,” said Becky Miller, the general manager of the Sundial Resort.

The reopening has not been an easy journey. Antoinette Lodico, the food and beverage manager, said everyone at the resort played a part in the rebuilding process.

“Whether it was welding or concrete work or plumbing or driving skid steers, we’re all certified now to drive, you know, little tractors and stuff like that. So we got to have our hand in not only the cleanup but also the rebuild and now reopening, which just makes it that much even better,” said Lodico.

Jason, a bartender at the resort since 2011, expressed excitement about returning to work and reconnecting with longtime guests.

“My favorite part where I’m working here is really our guests. We get the same folks. They come back year after year, and you really get to make a connection with people. That’s why I came back after the hurricane,” said Jason.

Danny, a line cook at the resort since 1991, is eager to see more guests.

“We need more people at the resort because now we are open, you know, happy to do business,” said Danny.

With the resort’s reopening, it seems Danny won’t have to wait long to see those longer lines.
