The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office said that a contractor has been arrested after he was hired to build a room in a home without a license.

Deputies said the victim hired Steven Saunders to build a sunroom in her home, but he allegedly did not have a license.

Saunders said the total for the sunroom would be $85,389. The victim put down $39,389, but further research revealed that Saunders was not a licensed contractor.

When the victim found out, she asked for her money back, but he said he had already bought too much product.

Saunders then called her and allegedly asked for one more day to make things right. The victim refused and said she wanted her money back.

Deputies investigated and found that he never bought anything, obtained any permits or performed work on the sunroom.

Saunders was charged with unlicensed contracting during a state of emergency (a third-degree felony) and second-degree grand theft.
