The North Port Fire Rescue has enacted a citywide outdoor burn ban due to extreme drought conditions and an increased wildfire threat.

According to the North Port Fire Rescue, bonfires, campfires, yard debris fires, fire pits and cooking pits are not permitted.

Grills (gas/charcoal) are allowed, but they ask to use extreme caution.

Current rainfall conditions are 1.5 inches below average, and the drought index is at 586 on a scale of 0-800, so the fire danger remains high to very high.

There is no significant rain expected soon. This ban will remain in place until further notice.
