DeSantis’ new Boater Freedom Initiative would end random FWC boat safety inspections

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said the new Boater Freedom Initiative, proposed and announced on Wednesday, will protect Sunshine State residents’ right to boat.

According to the Governor’s Office, the Boater Freedom Initiative would prevent local bans on vessels based on the fuel type used.

In turn, repealing random vessel safety inspections without probable cause from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

During the announced proposal, DeSantis also directed FWC to produce a five-year safety inspection decal program linked to vessel registration.
