Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis unveiled a bronze statue of George Washington in the Capitol Building Rotunda in Tallahassee.

Secretary of State Cord Byrd introduced the statue during a news conference held on Thursday.

The governor remarked the importance of acknowledging American historical figures, saying that when some people tear down statues, Florida instead erects them.

The unveiling comes as a reminder that the 250th anniversary of the United State’s independence is coming up in 2026.
