Charlotte County deputies arrest 34 people on drug trafficking charges

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of more than 30 people for charges related to trafficking, selling and/or delivering drugs.

The primary substances involved in these operations were methamphetamine, fentanyl and cocaine.

Chris Hall, Public Information Officer with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, explained what sets this roundup apart.

“Those are all people that are being charged with sale, delivery, and trafficking of those drugs,” said Hall. “These aren’t just your everyday users. These are people that are providing it to the users, so when we have a situation like we’ve got right now where we rounded up 34 of them, that’s an impressive thing and that takes that element out so the users aren’t getting their hands on it either.”

Sheriff Bill Prummell also released a statement expressing his thoughts on the operation.

“It always surprises me when my team does a roundup like this. Have these people not been paying attention? We won’t stand for it in Charlotte County, so either quit pushing your poison or get out,” said Prummell.

He further addressed those who might think they evaded this sweep.

“To anyone we didn’t include in this roundup that thinks maybe they got away with something, believe me, your time is short. Use this opportunity to find a new place to live,” said Prummell.

The sheriff’s office is committed to continuing these efforts and encourages the public to report any suspicious drug activity.
