Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis delivered his State of the State Address in Tallahassee.

DeSantis held the address at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday at Florida’s capital city.

DeSantis delivered a speech outlining his administration’s achievements and future goals for Florida. He emphasized the importance of clear direction and strengthening the state.

“We can and must continue to lead,” said DeSantis, highlighting his commitment to addressing illegal immigration and crime in Florida.

DeSantis praised Florida for maintaining a strong economy, noting that the state has had a lower-than-average unemployment rate for 50 consecutive months. He also mentioned that Florida welcomed 142 million tourists in 2024.

Insurance reforms have helped reduce rates, with the most prominent companies reporting 6-10% decreases. SNP Global Insurance has recognized Florida as having the lowest rate of increase among all 50 states.

“Our economy is strong because of sensible spending,” said DeSantis, noting that Florida has the lowest state debt in America after paying off 41% of its debt over the last 6 years. He also emphasized the state’s commitment to low taxes and providing billions in tax relief.

In education, he highlighted Florida’s status as the top state for school choice and the first to enact such a program. He introduced a Teachers’ Bill of Rights and announced increased funding for teacher salaries and civics programs.

DeSantis also discussed the Hope Florida initiative, which aims to change government agencies’ responses to individuals on government assistance.

He also addressed hurricane recovery efforts and his desire to protect Second Amendment rights while instituting positive reforms. He also mentioned the elimination of sales tax on baby items as part of his administration’s efforts to support families.

The governor concluded his address by emphasizing the need to continue leading and being a model for other states.
