New cell phone policy for the Lee County School District

Published: Updated:

At the Tuesday Lee County School Board meeting, a new cell phone policy was approved as part of the Code of Conduct.

As per the meeting, students may possess personal wireless communication devices (WCDs). This includes but is not limited to cell phones and/or devices such as watches and earbuds.

However, all personal WCDs must be turned off and in the student’s backpack at all times.

WCDs are permitted when the device is approved by the school and used to monitor a health condition that is documented through medical records.

As of July 1, 2023, the following meet the criteria for prohibited applications in Florida schools: QQ, TikTok, WeChat, VKontakte and Kaspersky.

Violation of the policies can result from the display of weapons or inappropriate messages, pictures or images on a student’s WCD that disrupt the safe operation of the school.
