Florida Power and Light has thrown its hat in the ring supporting the expansion of Electrathon America.

Dunbar and Cape Coral high schools will participate in the event as students join together to create solar go-carts.

The program offers high school students an opportunity to learn about STEM principles as they design, build and race electric vehicles.

At Florida Gulf Coast University, the solar car club is preparing for the competition in April. One member of the team at Cape Coral High School received an $8,000 grant to further their project.
