Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has awarded the Central Florida Intermodal Logistics Center a $1.5 million grant to expand rail access in Winter Haven.

During Monday’s news conference, the governor discussed Moving Florida Forward, an initiative to accelerate roadway projects in several heavily populated and congested parts of the state.

According to the governor, the rail expansion will allow CXS railways more access to assist in shipping capabilities and logistics.

DeSantis remarked that under his leadership, 20 major roadway improvement projects are years ahead of schedule due to the Moving Florida Forward Initiative, saying that residents should not wait for improvements if work can be completed.

The grant will be allocated from the Moving Florida Forward project.

According to the governor, businesses that rely on railroad transportation will benefit significantly from the expansion.

During the conference’s brief question and answer portion, DeSantis said that construction of the expanded rail access should not affect Winter Haven residents.
