Government officials want to build awareness for those affected by recent storms and stop creditors from taking advantage of them.

Southwest Florida locals are recovering from the impacts of Hurricane Milton in October, and many are seeking assistance with storm damage.

The Florida Department of Financial Services Chief Financial Officer, Jimmy Patronis, Collier County Sheriff Kevin Rambosk, and other officials warn homeowners to contact their insurance companies.

Patronis advises homeowners not to accept solicitation from door-to-door people offering contracting-related services, as these people may not be certified to work on hurricane-damaged homes.

Patronis then reminded residents of the “CheckMyContract” website link for public use.

The service provides information to the user and verifies the authenticity of their contracting work.
