MARCO ISLAND, Fla.- The Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort is about to get a major facelift. Friday, the hotel unveiled details of the $250 million expansion.

“We’re talking about reductive elements, natural materials, lots of natural light, ventilation, lines of sight,” said architect Malcolm Berg.

There will be a new addition to the south end of the hotel. It will include a tower that has 94 adult-only rooms, a 12,000 square foot entertainment center that will have bowling, simulated golf, and a roof top pool and bar.

It will also double the amount of space it has for meetings and events.

“We’ll probably pick up some group/convention customers in the August, September time frame which is where we need to grow our business,” said Robert Pfeffer, director of sales and marketing.

The resort will also continue to cater to families year round.

The first phase of construction begins Monday. The resort will be closed to all guests until August 1. The entire expansion is expected to be complete by 2017.
