The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man for the Sunday shooting that killed a man from Port Charlotte.

According to deputies, Franklin Roosevelt Raybon Jr., 22, surrendered himself to the SCSO on Tuesday after an investigation was conducted for the murder of Cornelius Lee Cummings Jr.

According to SCSO, multiple 911 calls were made regarding an altercation turned shooting at the North Jetty Park in Nokomis.

Upon arrival at the scene, deputies located Cummings Jr. with a gunshot wound on his chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies discovered that a fight had broken out between both men. Raybon then allegedly went inside his vehicle to drive a short distance away from the altercation before exiting his car to fire several rounds from his 9mm handgun at Cummings.

Raybon then fled the scene with his girlfriend and infant child inside the vehicle.

According to multiple witness accounts, Cummings posed no immediate threat to Raybon at the time of the shooting as he was exiting the scene from his vehicle.

Raybon is charged with second-degree murder and attempted felony murder.
