The City of Cape Coral is experiencing a change in leadership, as two new council members are set to be sworn in.

Five new members will be sworn in on Wednesday, then they will attend their first council meeting immediately afterward.

Cape Coral residents expressed discontent toward the controversial monthly stipend the old council granted themselves for taking over the Community Redevelopment Agency.

That push incentivized voters on Election Day to pursue change in their local government, replacing District 4 incumbent Richard Carr and District 2 incumbent Dan Sheppard.

Jennifer Nelson and Laurie Lehmann are replacing Sheppard and Carr.

Derrick Donnell, Joseph Killraine, and Rachel Kaduk, who won their respective races for Districts 3, 5, and 7, join the newly elected.

Now that new blood is circulating in the Cape Coral City Council, the question remains—When will they get the ball rolling?

The Cape Coral community will continue to monitor the newly elected in hopes that they will follow through on their campaign promises.
