Memorial grows for beloved Estero High coach

ESTERO, Fla.- A memorial continues to grow for beloved Estero High School track coach and athletic director Jeff Sommer.

Sommer was coaching at the state meet in Jacksonville over the weekend when he reportedly collapsed soon after the girls 4×800 relay team won the state title.

Since the tragic news, people from all over Southwest Florida have shared their condolences and memories of Coach Sommer. He coached for 38 years and was a big part of the Estero community.

Counselors are on campus today to assist any students or staff members who want to talk about the coach’s sudden passing. Sommer was 58 years old.
