Gas line crash on U.S. 41 near Alico Road, at least 1 person dead

The northbound lanes of U.S. 41 near Alico Road are currently closed due to a fatal crash involving a gas line that left one vehicle engulfed in flames.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 8 a.m. when a vehicle traveling north on US 41, near Alico Rd. entered the outside shoulder and collided with a gas line.

The vehicle was ignited in flames, and one person has been confirmed dead, with the investigation ongoing to determine if there were other occupants in the vehicle.

The identity of the person has not yet been identified.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the closure on X but has not provided an estimate for how long the road will remain closed.

The southbound lanes of U.S. 41 are now open; the northbound lanes remain closed for the time being.
