News Philosophy

The more you know about your community, the stronger and healthier it can become! That’s why I believe in local news - energizing and empowering a community is valuable. It can lead to meaningful change and a deeper understanding of your neighbors (allowing you to help them overcome the challenges they face, and share in their successes).

Hobbies, Interests & Community Involvement

Let’s lace up those sneakers, throw on some sunscreen, and get outside! Whether it’s hitting the pavement for a jog, strapping on a helmet and biking a new trail, or strolling through southwest Florida’s great outdoors - that’s where I want to be. Another interest? Cats! Don't ask me about mine unless you're prepared for a lengthy slideshow.

Different vaccine types OK for first, second doses if need be, CDC says

A change in vaccine guidance is coming from the top. In rare cases, the CDC says the two currently approved mRNA coronavirus vaccines can be used interchangeably. But this doesn’t mean people should seek to get a different manufacturer’s vaccine from their first administered dose. If you can get two doses of the same vaccine, […]

Experts still focus on COVID-19 testing as preventative measure for spread

There is a new push for widespread testing as Americans who are eligible wait on vaccinations. One health care provider in Southwest Florida says it’s now offering free testing, and medical experts say this is key to keeping people out of the hospital. It goes back to pre-symptomatic or asymptomatic spread. If you don’t know […]

Are single-dose vaccines just as good as those that require two?

The only COVID-19 vaccines currently approved require two doses weeks apart, but what if you could get just one shot as we do with the flu vaccine? Johnson & Johnson says it has created a one-dose vaccine that’s yet to be approved by the federal government. Bonita Springs residents Nancy and Terry Meyer were ready […]

Florida senate bill introduced to raise children’s age to use car seats

There’s a new plan to keep children in booster seats longer. “It was actually around this time last year that my wife and I were in a very significant car crash. We were rear-ended by another vehicle,” said Mark Jenkins, Florida AAA spokesman. His first thought was are the children safe? “The first thing I […]
