FORT MYERS, Fla.- A man who barricaded himself inside an apartment complex has surrendered to police.

Police say they got the call just after 8 a.m. Tuesday morning at the Park at Veneto apartments on Solomon Boulevard.

Fort Myers police tell WINK News a combat veteran in his late 20s barricaded himself inside his apartment.

It took about three hours for a negotiator to get the man to peacefully come outside.

Authorities say the man was having delusional issues.

The situation had many neighbors on edge Tuesday morning.

“We were told by one of the employees at the apartment that apparently there was a man that was at the apartment who was a war veteran and he was barricaded in his apartment with weapons,” said resident Jodi Hahn.

“We are hearing a lot about this going on in the nation, with all these guys coming back. It’s tough, so we train for it and we prepare for it and obviously it worked out today,” said Jay Rodriguez with the Fort Myers Police Department.

Officials say they are not planning on releasing the identity of the man involved.
